Project Punent

Reaching Malta's Remote Coastlines

Accessing the parts of our islands' coastlines that are not reachable by land, where plastic accumulates unseen.

About Project Punent

Project Punent launched in 2021 to address one of Malta's most overlooked pollution challenges: the remote, land-inaccessible sections of our coastline where marine debris accumulates unobserved and uncollected.

Teams reach these sites by sea using kayaks and rigid inflatable boats, collecting waste that has washed in over years. The project logged significant volumes of legacy debris from coastal zones that had never been cleaned before.

Originally funded by the BeMed Foundation, Project Punent ran for two years across 2021 and 2022/23, completing its funded phase with measurable results across multiple remote sites around Malta and Gozo.
