The first edition of our microplastics survey was a collaboration between MCAST, Aquabiotech Ltd and Żibel.
IMPACT's goal is to identify microplastic hotspots in Maltese waters and pave the way for further research in this area. Understanding the presence and characteristics of these pollutants will inform stakeholders of their potential impacts on the marine environment and human health.
The methodology used in the study has been validated and is now a great base towards a standardised monitoring protocol for Malta.
