At 0900 a group of 15 volunteers met at Fekruna Bay and were given gloves, sunblock and water. Our team explained the sorting and collection method to be used on site. The volunteers split into smaller groups and set off with rubbish bags. At the same time, a group of divers set off from the slip way round the corner and moved towards the bay.
Full bags were taken to a point just above the beach as the clean-up progressed. Volunteers on land covered the beach area and trees behind, snorkelers moved out from the beach and went as far as they could personally go using netted bags.
Each group then helped move items from the collection point up to the street where we laid a cover down to ensure that items don’t get washed into the street. Each item or group of items were weighed (attached spreadsheet) and sorted into separate large canvas bag provided to us by Wasteserv. Once all processed, Wasteserv collected the bags and we swept the area with brooms, ensuring we left no trace.
